Heidi Klum was conceived in Bergisch Gladbach in Germany on June 1, 1973. Erna Klum who was Heidi's mother was a professional hairdresser. Gunther Klum was a director of a cosmetics company. Heidi's dad was formerly an executive producer at 4711, a company that made perfume. Heidi grew in Bergisch Gladbach which is a town with a population of 70,000, just 6 miles to the east of Cologne. She is a former model of German descent who performs as a host on TV as well as a fashion producer. Karin her girlfriend, who was the young student of 18 years at that time, encouraged her to join the German talent show named Model 92. The show, hosted by German magazines for women, Petra was the late-night talk show hosted by Thomas Gottschalk. Klum was up against over 25,000 competitors from Germany as well as Europe for the chance to be among three semifinalists. In April of 1992, she was awarded the $300,000.00 top prize for modeling.
